Crocheting is quite a consensual art. While you may envision grandmas with giant balls of thread and armed with needles when you think of crochet, the art has actually survived the times, passing from grandmas to daughters and granddaughters. While crochet items are easy to find, yet sometimes expensive to acquire, they are also fairly easy to make yourself once you learn the needlework and find the right pattern.
I love the visual appeal of a striped baby blanket. But the striping on my Spring Charms Baby Blanket is so much more — from small to large stripes and back again. This blanket pattern does not include multiples because of the row size repeats, but I do envision a wide version of the pattern — with fringe of course — at the back of my bed someday.
I love making handmade baby gifts. I thought a soft, snuggly, striped crochet baby blanket would be a perfect gift for a winter baby. Obviously you could choose to make the blanket in any colors you want but I choose blues, gray, and white because they are colors that make me think of winter.
Simply switch up the colors to fit with any nursery decor. Row 1: Insert your hook into the 2nd chain from the hook, yarn over and pull up a loop so you have 2 loops on the hook. Insert your hook into the 3rd chain from the hook, yarn over and pull up a loop so you have 3 loops on the hook.

Since this is Baby Velvet and not the regular velvet yarn, it is machine washable if you follow the instructions on the label. So if you tend to be a really loose crocheter you may want to go down a hook size, or just do your best to keep your tension tight throughout the whole blanket. A PDF of this pattern is available on Etsy.
