New retail, new restaurants, better parking and a renewed effort to make Atlantic Station a destination for Intown residents is happening now, according to Mark Toro, founder of North American Properties, which recently acquired the retail component in a joint venture with CB Richard Ellis Investors. Atlantic Station began a social media blitz this month, seeking input from the community on how to make Atlantic Station better.

Met up with friends for a birthday dinner on Saturday and was very surprised that the dining area was basically dead. Since we were early, my date and I had drinks at the bar. The bartender was awesome and made great drinks!

For a couple of years, Atlantic Station, the acre mini-city west of the Downtown Connector, has had to battle not only a bad economy, but also harsh perceptions. Foreclosures had hurt property values. Some residents complained of crime and that the promising mixed-use dream on a former steel mill site had turned into a rowdy cruising and party zone.
Todd Richards, executive chef at the Shed at Glenwoodis opening a smokehouse and raw bar called the Pig and the Pearl this winter.
